I would really like to know what Pool Room Owners think of the BCA. I was a member for the first few years that I owned my rooms. I didn't think that the benefits outweighed the expense, but I figured it was the thing to do. Things were going well and I didn't have any complaints. I paid my membership and life went on.
I have since cancellled my membership. As far as I'm concerned, the BCA does nothing for room owners. I'm not sure how pool is doing in the rest of the country but in Massachusetts it's in decline (big time). No one seems to be doing much about it.
What really ticks me off is that every time I turn on the TV, there is a poker match going on. Poker has attracted the attention of the entire Nation.
What is the BCA doing with the dues they are collecting? I get info from the APA all the time without paying dues.
As room owners, we have to send a message to the BCA! I would like the BCA to spend the majority of their funds on advertising pool, televising tournaments and promoting the game. That would benefit room owners as well as retailers. It seems to me that retailers are getting the biggest piece of the pie right now.
Do any of you disagree that whoever is marketing Poker is doing a far better job than the BCA?
Personally, I think that the best use of BCA dues would be in funding the production of a major motion picture on the scale of the "Hustler" or "The Color of Money". When those films came out, pool boomed! I would be more than willing to help support such a project. The last Pool movie (that I recall) "Pool Room Junkies" was a disgrace. It never even hit the thearters in the Northeast.
If the BCA is providing a useful service to Room Owners, I'd really like to hear about it.
As far as I'm concerned, it all starts with the Rooms. Proficiency fosters interest. You can have a table in your house and play with a few of your buddies. In order to really improve your game (which, in turn, increases your interest) you need to go out and engage in competetion, whether it's in tournaments or league play.
Interested in your thoughts.
