Before Snooker Became Big Time

thx for posting it! i hadnt seen this onebefore.

i still think, it was a weird break. that bank shot wasnt what i was expecting. that was a very agressive type of shot, i can only imagine being done by modern atacking youngsters, not by davis in the old days, when it was more about safety. at 2-2 and a easyer red with a finish on blue would have been my choice, but hey he made a 147, so who am i to blame :)
that pink shot was AMAZING!! with a rest, far from his body, deep screw at THE keyball for first 147 just spectacular.

thx alot m8, i enjoyed it

Thanks a lot! Great stuff! A couple of shots in it really looked like Steve was playing 9 ball...

There is a video of Steve running 147 on the computer game Virtual Snooker. In that run he also side banks a red in the middle of the rack. I agree this is quite weird. I watched the posted vid and I think they are different 147s. Anybody know for sure ?

Big Time Snooker?

First...thanks for sharing that.

I would love to know from what year that video was taken. I recall sometime in the early-mid 80's (I think)...about or just after Steve Davis' prime (I think)... Sports Illustrated Magazine reported the World Cup Finals had a greater Neilson rating in England that year than the Superbowl had in America. I recall that being the first time I wondered why American professional pool players couldn 't do just as well and make just as much money. In the article, was a photo of Steve Davis' shiney new Porche 911 with the license plate "147".

Wish some one would find that article and post it because my memory for dates and such is pretty fuzzy.

well, in a way, all cue games are perfect for tv, however, snooker is much more spectator friendly than nine ball. this is due to the position coding of balls, compared to color coding in nine ball. this makes it more enjoyable to watch, and less mental effort needed to understand what is a good shot, and what should be a next shot, etc...

this is why there will never be as much money in 9 ball, as there is in snooker.

Jan 11, 1982, according to the first few frames of the video.

I'm pretty sure it was from '81 or '82. Davis won the Lada for the maximum but used to joke that the car was so horrible that if he had missed the black at the very end they were going to give him two Ladas.
