Hello guys, let me start by giving a bit of background. simply put I have been doing repairs/modifications for a hair over ten years. (On a Chris H Mid size, 2nd machine now) I have always been super intrigued by cue work. I read the blue book of cues like a bible at 13, 14 lol Nowadays. I'm a mechanic and work over my head 90% of the time. After a recent work related injury it really made me think. Maybe cue building is in the cards for me. So, I have a CH Midsize that I use for tips/ferrules etc... I bought a router and mount that IK will work fine. So I'll take any parts list or ideas from any n everybody. For now, to cut finale pass on some premade stuff is ok with me. Im on a budget and just want to learn i.e. Cored forearms handles and buttsleeves. something I can taper on my carriage. Yes I have been told soooo much about how or what is the right way to set a taper. Im wide open for instructions on setting my tailstock offset and etc etc. Thank you in advance to any helpful responses.

I assume you have Chris’s book? Do you have an offset tail stock or are you planning on just moving the center on the existing tail stock? I recommend a second tail stock as you will quickly tire of rezeroing your tail stock after taper operations.

I have one of his dvds that come with the machine. But, i have figured out the taper thing. Now idk what router to buy based off what everybody has been telling me.

They pretty much all work, it's just getting the speeds down that will challenge you.

Patience!
Start with a 4 minte pass across 30 inches and go from there. 3 flute cutters are great. Some like the wing cutters, I don't.
That bit of info "4 Min pass for 30 inch" answers a big question I had. Does that differ for joint to butt cap and or shafts?

It's a reference point. Have to start somewhere.
Everything depends on your set up and the stability of it.
Your going to waste some and that's ok.
The payoff is worth it.
You have to know your machine's capabilities and possibilities.
