Just curious what everyone feels is the best break cue. I have tried the sledgehammer and it isnt my favorite. Any opinions?

Thanks!

I tried a Sledgehammer and miscue'd all the time, cuz the tip was so round.

a friend of mine has one and he loves it, and just kills the rack when using it.

I have tried the Predator BK, but i just dont like it for some reason. It could have been the weight of the one i was using.

Now me personally, i have had a Action JB, Omen, and Players JB.

I loved that Omen, but stupid me sold it duuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrr, if i could get my hands on another Omen JB i would buy it in a heartbeat cuz those J/B's are so good its not even funny.

I break with a Predator SPJU and 314 shaft with one of those brown phenolic tip/ferrule combos on it. The cue is 18oz and breaks really well. It also jumps good. I'll have a jump joint put in it shortly.

I had that same problem too but I just flattend the tip out and now I break very well with it.

I really like my BK with the White diamond tip. Breaks just as hard as any sledge that i've tried but with a lot more control.

If i had to buy a new breaking cue i'd be looking at the Stinger. I've only heard good things about it and they look good too.

Are you considering just performance, or cost versus performance? What I mean is I have heard nothing but good about the Stinger and the Fury, it would be interesting to know if the stinger was really worth twice as much.

i really like predator bk with a water buffalo tip. the hit is solid, and the control is superb. it doesn't hit as hard as a sledge, but the spread of balls i get is very good.

but if i want a really hard break, i just take my sneaky pete with a rock hard phenolic tip. the sound is amazing, like the balls are being shattered into a million pieces and the balls are jumping all over the table even with a medium speed break.

I have tried the Stinger and didn't like the way it broke at all. The cue had a strange hit/feel to it. It does jump the balls phenomenally well.

I have also tried a Predator BK with a White Diamond tip and I agree with Deep. It breaks like a Sledgehammer and the lower deflection makes it break even better. If I hadn't already purchased a Sledgehammer before trying that combination I would definately break with one.

Think "BEST" is what works for you PRESONALLY BEST. I just got a Custom Break Cue. Going to try it out today, or tomarrow.... :p Hopefully all my Test before it was Comission, give me what I wanted.... :D

How can you ...

If you have only tried 2 of those listed. Of course you
are going to vote for what you tried. Personally, I have
my doubts about break sticks, because I feel a good
Sneaky Pete with a hard leather tip breaks just as well,
because I feel technique of breaking is more important
than the break stick itself.

I have a break cue, which I designed. John Parker of Auerbach Custom Cues made it for me. I also have a Predator BK... I like both of these fine cues.

From unbiased opinions, the Jerico j/b cue is a tremendous cue. It needs to be tested and added to Platinum Billiards list.

The Fury j/b might be the most cost effective. I love that sucker.

Currently, I break with my Andy Gilbert J/B. It's balanced so well, that it's just like breaking with my regular cue, which is really what I need.

I had the Sledgehammer and have no complaints about it. I gave it to my G/F because she needs the extra weight and she really does break better with it. Now I break with a Predator BK and also love it. The reason for the switch is because I have more control with the BK and I got it down to 16 oz. If I had to choose it would be hard because of the control factor.

I think Lucasi J/B should be on the list.

I bought a Lucasi J/B cue for $125.00 had a cue guy strip off the "finish" that was on the shaft and put on a phenolic tip...$20.. Total cost $145.00

The thing breaks so good, a "A" player shelved his break cue and borrowed mine when I was in between matches...

I of course lost my first round match to the one and only Rude Dog...(what a draw!!) but it was not my break that was the problem :D :D

I'll keep my Foster

I would rather cut off one of my ears than give up my Foster. Breaks huge, jumps like a rabbit and is awfully sexy. If Doug made women I get him to make me one.

How and with what?
I just wrapped the shaft with a towel and clamped it with a vise very close to the ferrule. I then took a Mikita power hand sander and just sanded the tip until it was to a flatness I liked.
