what are the best drills for 8-ball....looking to play tourneys on the bar box valley table...but practice on an 9 foot diamond......any suggestions....perhaps lots of straight pool? but any others for tight cue ball control and back dooring balls which is super important on bar box 8-ball?

I play both bar box and 9' tournaments. For me, it's absolutely important to play and practice the game and the size of the tournament. Playing on a 9' table will help your shotmaking, but the position play will not be the best. It IS that different.

Since I don't do drills, I would suggest to randomly throw balls on one half of the table and strive to keep your cueball in that half.

I'd recommend the L drill where you line up 5 balls from the head rail middle spot to the rack spot, then line up 5 balls perpendicular to the middle dot on the side rail before the side pocket. most of the shots you play in a game of bar table 8 ball are 1 rail position shots.
