I know we have read and seen alot about New Orleans in the past week, so lets get some positve stories going. I would like to hear your stories about times you had in "THE BIG EASY"
I had the oppurtunity of being able to go to New Orleans back in the early 90's when Humphrey(jungledude) owned the Rackateers poolroom. New Orleans was the action place of the early 90's in the southeast if not the whole nation. Action 24 hours a day everyday. Humphreys was having a monthly(i think) tournament and it drew all of the players. People were coming in for the tournament and would "move" there.
Anyway a friend of mine named Joey Nelson, Morty and myself went into Rackateers one night and I played a little nineball and won a few beans. After it was over a guy walked up and introduced himself as "Mark" and said that I was short-timing. I asked him what he meant and he said " you are playing the guppies, when you should be playing the "whales". I knew he was trying to get me in the "middle", but I went along with him and we ended up making a nice little "roll". He did not steer me wrong, but I knew their was something about this guy, that spelled " RELIEVE ME OF MY CASH". So after he steered me that first time I was done with him, but Morty was not. Morty thought he could play cards and he asked Mark to set him up with a "hold em" game. Mark called a guy on the phone and in about 15 minutes Morty was in action. Joey was in, I was NOT. It was all over in about 30 minutes, Morty was stunned, I was NOT. After it was over I went into the bathroom and found Mark in the bathroom splitting the cash up with another dude. That was the first time I met Ricky P. One cool and funny dude. Mark was trying to give me back Morty's money so he could still be "in" with us the rest of our trip. That is when Eddie Brown showed up, he took over the "steering wheel" and he knew how to drive!
This story is not over, but I will continue it later.
Let me here your memories of New Orleans. Preferrably pool related!
