Big Ten Schools' Pool Championship

Raemondo,

I am out of school now but a kid that comes to Cue Nique plays at UW-Whitewater and they have a billiard club there. UW-Madison doesn't have too many good players if any. Last year when my fiance won college nationals she was the best player at the school, for the most one of the only players there. Most DIII schools have a billiards club and I am sure they would love to do something like this. All schools have a van and the students can schedule it to go a school event with schools in northern IL. There are 6 schools scattered along southern WI that all have billiard clubs that would be within a 3 hour drive to Chicago.

Hi T Cox,

Still, what are DIII schools? Is D = Division? What kind of divisions?

Did your fiance go to UW-Madison? I dunno if all the UWs are under the umbrella of the Big Ten, but I could check that out.

This is going be a a real coincidence. Last year, the Nationals runner-up to your fiance, Olivia Cheng, who incidentally is the Vice Pres of my club, told me that the winner was really good. Olivia also said that her BF was even better, him being a pro player. Are you this person? I didn't know that the winner was from UW.

I dunno about the part where all schools have a van --- I know mine doesn't! We all have to squeeze in our own cars when we go for regionals...but yes, if the hype is enough, I'm sure they will make the trip. We'll just have to plan sufficiently for their expenses.

thanks!

Is your fiance Maria?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there were any pool players out there from the midwest Big Ten schools --- Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue & Wisconsin --- that are interested in coming together to organize our own Big Ten Pool Championship.

I know that there's another post where Grady was asked to bump this idea up to the NCAA, but we could still start small and do something. I run the pool club at and U of Illinois and I know that Indiana U is game for something. Are there other forum users from the other schools that might be interested? Yes, I know, we already have the ACUI regionals, but having one more pool tourney is only gonna mean more fun!

In addition, any potential sponsors, marketers, and people who just have comments and suggestions are welcome to post. Other schools not in the Big Ten are welcome too, we could do something separate as well.

All roads are open!!!

Count the Hoosiers in!

if you ever plan on expanding this to CA i helped start a pool/billiards club at UCDavis this year and can probably rally quite a few to the cause. although there is nobody here that can compete at a national level. from what i hear, sfstate has a pretty high skill level, i probably know a few people who could get them to participate as well.

Rae,

im sure i could round up about 6-8 good SIUE players for whatever can be arranged. we are not in the big ten category but we do fit the illinois category.

Lars,

Hahaha, I was wondering when you'd show up! Rae = U of I = Blue Beavis & Butthead.

I'm DEFINITELY game for something right here...I think that in this forum it seems like the warmth of a Big Ten Championship is very lacking, but perhaps an all-Illinois match-up could be something we could do very soon. I think I have some contacts in Northwestern, U of I Chicago, and you guys. I'd love to include some of the other schools that have graciously replied but perhaps we could start small, and then increase the playing field when we're more secure. Lars, please PM me with your contacts.

thanks!

Hi Masayoshi,

I will definitely keep this in mind! Keep up the good work...I know firsthand how much effort has to be put in to setting up a club like that....

Hi James,

It's just a name I pulled out from memory after reading a report on Nationals last year between you and Lars...I'll bet that was exciting.

You might check with Purdue or IU's bass fishing club. I know (this was 6 or 7 years ago so things could've changed) that they started a college tournament between schools. Would think you might find some help from those clubs in how to arrange travel and schedules for the schools. Last I knew they had about 5 of the big ten schools participating together.

I'll bet it was more exciting for Lars!

If you get this challenge thing going let me know--I've got a friend in Chicago I want to come visit and I want the chance to play Lars if I get over that way! I've got a score to settle. ;)

Hi, I am down south in texas at the University of Houston and would love to play in this if it is open to Texas. This is a great idea, and I hope we can do it. :D

Lars V- I'm starting at SIUE this Fall! I'll be in the pool room often! I'm interested in some of the billiard events, if they have any at SIUE!
By the way, this is Michael Zimmerman, Zim.
