Billiards on DirecTV sports channels

Hi all,

I thought that I should mention this for anyone interested. From today until May 23, DirecTV is giving its customers a free preview weekend of the sports channels (the channels in the 600's). This includes Billiard TV. There are some good matches on (I just saw Mika, Busta, Rico Diks, Earl, Efren, Steve Davis, and Steve Knight in the World Pool League Championships). Probably lots of pool on this weekend. Check it out if you have DirecTV.

Uh oh, are you trying to tell me I'll be calling my cable company today, cancelling my subscription?

Billiard TV? Do we know if Dish Network also has this channel? I have to go to satalite soon and was leaning towards Dish Network. But gosh darn it...I want Billiard TV!

I'm doing the research now. Apparently, both DISH and DirecTV have this channel. There are a couple of cable companies listed but apparently, one went out of business.

Shit, now I have to go buy a TV. Maybe there will be one at a yard sale on the way home. I might have to suck it up and head to my mother inlaws house. :D

The "billiard channel" referred to here is Billiard Club TV, carried on four separate sports networks weekly, three of which are available on satellite to Dish Network and DirecTV customers, as well as to the cable customers in the markets for which they're broadcast.

These networks are:
Altitude Sports Network (Denver, Rocky Mt. region) - Dish Ch. 410 and DirecTV Ch. 644 Click here for Altitude's online schedule
Comcast Sports Net (Chicago) - Dish Ch. 429 and Directv Ch. 640
Click here for Comcast Chicago schedule
Comcast Sports Net West (Sacramento/ S.F.) - Dish Ch. 409 and Directv Ch. 656
Click here for Comcast West schedule

BCtv is also available in the Detroit market on Comcast Sports Local or CL in that market.

These networks carry BCtv in the SAME time slot every week, with 2-3 repeats to follow. This weekend you can see the Glass City Open and the World Pool League. Check the schedule links above.

Buckeye Cable Sports Network, available locally in Toledo, OH, also carried the Glass City Open and is scheduled to begin airing more of our weekly shows.

BCtv was broadcast on Empire Sports Network out of Buffalo, NY until they closed their doors in March, on Sun Network in Florida and Fox Sports Digital Nets.

Canadian viewers have access on Rogers Sports Net, the Canadian equivalent to Fox Sports Net in the US.

Incidentally, BCtv has been broadcast weekly on cable and satellite every week, without interruption, since July of 2003. I feel the need to mention this because we get little recognition for our efforts in the billiard market, partly because of our own lack of PR and that we're understaffed. But, we have a very loyal viewer base, and we thank those that tune in regularly.

We've revolutionized several aspects to broadcasting of pool, including LIVE pay-per-view, internet streaming, the use of electric blue cloth, and the use of the now infamous spotted cue ball for tournament play and TV. And there's more to come. We've also made some blunders along the way, but learned valued lessons as a result.

Sorry so long, but it's been awhile since I've tooted our horn. More than anything, I wanted to thank any of you that have watched along the way.

And thanks to the sponsors that have made it all possible. Please support them for their effort. They are: Simonis Cloth, Diamond Tables, Sardo Rack, Aramith Balls, Cuetec Cues, Cuestix Int., the Spider and most importantly Accu-Stats Video Productions. Call Pat Fleming at 1-800-828-0397 and buy a tape.

Thanks also to the tournament promoters, Barry Behrman of the U S Open, Tom Gearhart and Tom Elder of the Glass City Open and Greg Sullivan of the Derby City Classic, for their confidence and faith in our effort to build the sport through TV production and distribution.

Very shortly we plan to announce some exciting news that will propel the sport to new levels. Stay tuned. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

What did they show? If it is what I saw it was just hi-lights, not even showing a whole rack in most cases and just the last game of the match.

Cuequeen...what is the exact channel for Billiard TV on your Satalite? I just wanna figure out what market Iwe are in. Thanx.

Hi,

So far, my Tivo has taped the World Pool League match from channel 644 (Altitude TV) and the Glass City Open on channel 656. Hope this helps, Landshark!
