Billy Bob- Email or PM me with an update on the BSACA DVD Training Videos that you got from me a couple months ago. I'm curious to hear what you think, how it improved your game and your likes/dislikes.

Thanks,
Zim

Best to discuss it here, then maybe someone can help me...

I'm still working on the first two videos (was out of town for 3 weeks.) I'm kinda weird that I like to master one thing before proceeding. I'll eat one thing at a time on my dinner plate for example.

Anyway I have been playing casual pool for years and only seriously for about two years. FYI - The first two videos are on stance stroke, etc. In the video, he strokes without moving his upper arm. I have a bad habit of moving my upper arm though (from years of playing wrong).

So I'm trying to re-train myself to stroke like he does in the video. I notice that the better players in my area also do not move their upper arm when stroking. I made myself a gizmo like he has in the video to keep your upper arm from moving. I wish I could take that to tournaments.

Anyway I want to get my stroke fixed before proceeding. Then I think I will do better with the rest of the videos. Do you think this is the best way to proceed?

I too had the same problem you had! It took a lot of dedication to keep me from doing it. Luckily for me, I broke that habit prior to attending the course. I think your safe to continue on to the next level. Maybe a little mental break from focusing on your "dropping elbow" is what the Dr ordered. If you're focusing on your shoulder dropping and it's not really correcting itself, try focusing on the position of your tip when in the finish position. This will in turn, correct your "dropping elbow" naturally.
Best of luck and don't hesitate to call or email me if you have any future concerns.

Thanks - Sounds like a good idea. Then I am looking and thinking "forward" rather than having my mind on what my arm is doing back behind me.

I was able to re-train myself to "pause" or leave my cue in the follow through position after shooting. In the past I would jump up after shooting - sometimes even hitting the light! Was not easy to break that habit.

If I can see the difference of where the tip goes when I move my arm -vs- not moving my arm, then I can watch during each shot along with watching that I am pausing after each stroke.

Exactly! Sounds like you're on a straight path to improvement! Keep me posted!

Yeah my gf that I got into playing and she is getting way better and bought her a decent cue. Well anyways she has the habit of not staying down and wanting to jump up which makes the tip of the cue go up. I am trying to break her of this. She is doing it more now but it was tough getting her into that. I tell her to think while she shoots and after a while it will become habit. Good advice.

Quick way to stop jumping up on shots!
- Hold a sharp pencil above her head with the point pointing to her head when she's shooting.

Quick way to shooting by yourself!

Honestly, the pencil worked for me! It only took about 6 holes in my head to figure out to quick jumping up after the shot. I still stay down to this day!
