Nicknames should just happen. When it happens to the lucky recipient he/she just takes on a special glow when the name has the right ring and fits like a glove. It almost seems from the beginning like they have been going by that name for years.

I was witness to one of those fateful moments last night. I was playing a friend a set of 8 ball. It was a close race as usual. One thing about playing him is he has this really annoying shark. When his opponent (me in this case) makes a critical mistake like a potentially match altering scratch. He will quickly lay his cue down on the table and rush off to the restroom to just let them sit there and stew about their mistake for a few moments. Well I have tried everything to get him to stop to no avail. He does his predictable little routine last night right on queue, and he goes on to win the set 5/4.

As we are breaking down I said to him “…you got no class man” in a gleeful/taunting tone he responds “yep, just like a holiday …no class” I thought for a second

…OK “Holiday” it is

Has a nice ring to it don’t you think?

Anyone else have any stories behind nicknames?

That is too kind. Reminds me of Doc Holiday. Think of something else, like 'toilet warmer' :D .

Already taken, I think that’s what his grandmother calls him.

I have a friend who plays great pool. The only thing is that sometimes the balls rattle (right before they drop) for him, it seems like more for him than anyone else. His name is Joe. I started calling him "Sloppy Joe" until he got so mad that he would not speak to me. He made me quit calling him that, but eveytime that I see him, that is what I am thinking. It just fits.

name that didnt stick. I had this friend and his last name was heater. he would take forever to shoot. For some reason we grew apart, it may of had a little to do with me calling him "peter beater heater" but i am not sure.

Have a very good friend who worked for a Large Metropolitan Police Department until a disability retirement, he was assigned to a Special Enforcement Detail (Metro Division) where everyone had a Nickname.

His was “Tinman”, and the reason he got his nickname was the Wizard of Oz was playing all week on on television the week he was assigned to the Special Enforcement Detail.

The nickname stuck, but never made much scenes to me as the guy had a Heart.

Here's a link to the pool room I used to work in and play in, and the nicknames of alot of the players including me. The BEST old school room around IMHO. I miss that place alot every day. Check out the rest of the site also, alot of good info there.....Gerry
