A friend told me that a local pool hall has two Black Crown pool tables for sale each for $2500 Canadian.

Are they made by Brunswick? Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on the Black Crown? Is the price fair? Are they any good etc, etc. Much appreciated, RJ

ps. I think that $2500 Canadian is about $1800-$1900 US.

- That is a fairly decent buy for a BC.

- No they arn't made by Brunswick ( Canada Billiard And Bowling )

- Personally my home pool hall Racks has 8 new black crowns. I think they are lovley to play on.

Sounds like for just a bit more you could get a used Gold Crown. Why buy a Buick when you can have a Cadillac? Free advice- worth every penny...

The myth is always out there that a Black crown is just a cheaper version of a gold crown. it isnt. Its made by a totally different company I love them. Its "the table" in canada. Like the Gold Crown in the states

I played on some Black Crowns at a tourney last night. The tables were a few years (how many, I don't know) old and the
rails were dead. It was also Championship cloth and not Simonis which also contributed to make them overall, slow tables.Furthermore the pockets were very generous. It was that pool halls first tourney and the players were all complaining about the (dead rails) tables.

A change of rails and cloth would give me a chance to give a better opinion of what I thought of the Black Crown.Apparently they are solid tables, however,I think I'll hold out for something else, preferablly a used Gold Crown.RJ

I've never played on Black Crowns but the last time I played on a CB&B table I found that the rails were really slow (table was by fire exit also) when the bartender asked how everything went I mentioned the slow rails, he looked at me like he's heard that alot. Can you upgrade the cushions?

Kyle, Yes you can install new cushions (rails) and if it's done properly they'll make a world of difference. Most (smart) pool room owners will change the rails at the same time the cloth needs replacing.

This however, isn't done to often in the lower budget poolrooms because it can cost up to $600 Canadian (USA $$$ ???) per table when labour and materials are factored in.RJ
