Bobby Hunter 3/8 x 10 pin, older versus new question

Could someone explain the difference between these two 3/8x10 pins? These both made by Bobby Hunter. The cue on the left was made in the late 1990’s and the cue in the right was made around 2010. The problem I’m having is, the shaft from newer pin will not fit on the older pin. I’m sure it’s a modification that Bobby made over time. Thank you for the help.

Also note that any cue mechanic can adapt the newer shaft to fit the old pin and vice versa, but it won't be nearly as tight as you may expect.

Thank you for the link. So any idea why it was modified, which pin is the preferred pin.

i dont think you will tell a difference in the hit
the pin that will accommodate other shafts lets you experiment if you want to

It is purely a Cue maker thing. Some makers like it and some don't.
It's just that simple.
