Bois de Rose?

I am hoping I can get some info from the cuemakers here.

I know Bois de Rose is a 'pain' to work with, what with the bleeding and all. But can someone please confirm or deny that if, once sprayed with a proper UV finish, the wood will contimue to darken, and will eventually turn black?

I know that Tulipwood will eventually turn to shades of brown when left exposed and not finished, but once a UV finish is applied, it generally halts this process. Can the same be said of Bois de Rose?

I was planning to have a cue made of this variety of rosewood, and if it is going to go black on me, then I need to know before construction on the cue begins, so that I may make alternate wood choices.

Thanks in advance!

:D :D :D

I was waiting patiently for someone to reply to this.

I know Paul Fanelli posts here and so does Murray Tucker. I've seen a couple of beautiful cues made of this wood by these guys. Hopefully they see it and respond.

Hey Koop!

Well, Skip should have my deposit tomorrow, so like you, I too am waiting anxiously! I did discuss some of this with Skip, and he told me he has not had one of his BdR cues go black. He says with the proper UV finish, they shouldn't. He said it may darken a bit over time, but most all woods do this. A local cuemaker told me today that generally the oily-er woods tend to darken the most rapidly, and then settle in.

Looks like I had to do my own homework on this. ;)

Take care!

Glad to hear it Lisa because it sounds like a great design.
I just heard from him and there are two changes to the cue.
The outside veneer will match the points and I'm going with a Kangaroo leather wrap.

Let the ride begin :D
