Bootleg Billiards in Indianapolis

My 9 year old is on vacation this week. It was his idea that we travel through part of the country and play at different pool halls. So we did. We stopped in Erie, Pa, Pittsburg, Pa, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN and Cleveland, OH.

We had a great time until we hit Indianapolis. We played at Airport Billiards and then went over to Chalkees in case J. Lee was there. We were not allowed in because they served alcohol. Likewise in other establishments we were also not allowed to play pool. Even though kids ate at the other establishments, they were not allowed to play pool. I thought I was my sons parent. I guess in some states parents automatically give their rights to the state and the state makes the decision for the parents. They call it gaming. What a joke. Pool is a great game and the sooner your kids can play and see OTHERS play as well, will they truly understand if they will like the game.

What I learned is that these state governments treat pool as a dirty game. This must change now. Also, a must change now, is to not allow laws that take away your parenting rights. I guess as we travel we get an opportunity to see foolish laws not to forget those laws right were we all live. What's happened to our country. If a parent allows their child to play pool in any establishment, then it is their right - not the laws. Don't families have pool tables at home? Don't they also have alcohol there also in some cases? Guess we are not suppose to talk about it huh?

I'm going to take a guess that the liquor license where you were at in Indiana prevented the kids from being in the pool room. Kids do play pool in indiana, but most places that have a bar license in indiana kids are not allowed.

Right, but some allow kids in, they just can not play billiards such as Fox and the Hound.

Sorry that you had a bad experience in Indy. In Indiana, if you have alcohol you must have a special permit where you can allow under 21 kids to come in. They offer a license much like the major restaurants have, called a "limited separation" license and it costs plenty and also mandates that you meet certain food to drink ratios that most locations just can't meet.

We have a pool room in Muncie, Indiana - Breaker's, and we have the limited separation license and allow kids in and allow them to play pool. If we didn't have this license we couldn't do that.

Don't ask me to explain it.... just the dang way it is.

Indiana really is a neat place for pool and we're just sorry you had a bad experience.

nice reply Miss Tammie. I was getting ready to respond. Guess you covered it though. Are we ready for spring and the tournament schedule? I'm almost ready to start a regular workout schedule. See you Tuesday. Sam

Thanks Tammie. Your right, Indy is a very nice place. Also, it is very clean, downtown is super and the night life is one of the best. To bad these laws affect billiards in such a way that it gives the appearance that billiards is something bad. And it can't be a bad thing if my son enjoys it. Thanks again.
