I’m looking for a boring bar that works with the tool holder on a Mid Size Cuesmith lathe. The one I just received has to be shimmed more than I like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The one that Chris Hightower sells is nice. It will need to be shimmed, but it comes with a metal spacer that is right for the Mid Size standard holder. If you get a QCTP, all that shimming nonsense goes away.

Thanks Mike. I’ve been thinking about a QCTP; where did you get one? Thanks again.
I bought mine on ebay. You'll need the OXA size. The spacer that comes with it is a little too short. I made my own 1/2 inch spacer.
Dave38? adapted a router mount that he bought which would be easier to implement.

That is one of the main reasons I got a quick change post. Makes adjusting the boring bars pretty easy and stress free of trial and error of finding the perfect shim combinations.

I bought some really nice mini/micro boring bars off ebay, its a micro 100 super carbide. For all my other boring bars I bought a cheap set off amazon with inserts that can be changed. They fit well in any tool holder, they have a hex kind of shape so they fit in round or straight holders.

i bought 2 QCTP from amazon for less than 65.00. Bought a pack of unistrut square washers for under 5.00. Drilled and tapped to make a riser.Sold off the extra tool post and kept the holders. Now I have 8 holders if I need them,Cheap but I am not doing anything intricate.
