break speed? have you noticed/measured a mph increase using a break cue

I'm not good breaker by any stretch, struggle with speed and accuracy

I recently tried a few higher end breakers and break shafts and measured no difference as far as mph compared to my player (cuetec cynergy with kamui black hard)

I logged a good couple hundred hits on each cue

curious if people here have been able to quantify a difference specific to break speed?
 
I use a el cheapo J&J j/b with a white diamond tip. i get more ball speed than with a regular cue or a house cue. how much??? no clue but its obvious to me and others that have used the same cue.
 
Don't know if Seyberts or other in-house sellers have a break speed app, but one would think that it would be a good idea for their selling purposes to have an available one to use ..... if the newer technology cues significantly increased speeds. On site 'immediate comparisons' would prompt sales. Then again they could do just the 'opposite'. :unsure:

I have an "Elite" brand one from pooldawg. It has a wooden pin just like that. I actually like the hit of it a lot. It used to weigh something stupid like 24 oz or so, I took out a weight bolt that was about 8" long and probably 1/2" diameter. I like mine on the lighter side and a guess is that it's now about 16 or 17 oz. I could cut the weight bolt down but I really like it this way.

Those wood to wood joints are great. No durability issues. At one time I thought about buying one and putting on a normal tip to make it a player but never did. Sometimes I get a few funny looks and questions when people see it's a wood screw, after they hit with it they generally like it.
 
I break with a older Predator BK2 cue , as for a increase in ball speed I don't have a clue other than I know I've made the 8 ball on the break a lot more times .
As for a tip on the BK2 it's a Le Pro tips until it goes south then I've got a Samsara tip to replace it .
 
I broke with a 25oz cue for some games when my breaker broke. Looked and sounded like I was murdering the balls. Definitely added speed to the CB. Not sure how much, but I’ll stick to an 18-19. 25 is too much for me. I’m pretty sure my stroke was about the same speed, and the added weight was making the cb go faster than normal. Even a 21oz speeds up the break for me.

So to answer your question. I see a noticeable speed increase when breaking with a heavier cue. Haven’t noticed a tip effecting break speed, because I’ve never changed out a tip to test if there is a speed difference between them. From a physics standpoint though as long as the shaft can efficiently distribute the added energy transfer a harder tip should give you a little more speed.

Using a player-type 19oz cue (i.e. not a specific break cue) with a hard tip I was in the 14.5-15.5 MPH range using the Predator app. (Any faster and I lost the cue ball.)

I purchased a used 25oz break/jump cue with a phenolic tip. Immediately I was at 16-17.0.

That said, it could also be that I actually practiced breaking more. With the very heavy cue I have to really focus on accelerating the cue smoothly or it’s a disaster.

Either way, I am breaking much better and getting better spread and higher percentage of sinking something on the break.
 
I also once had a 25 oz break cue which at first I didn't mind using but that was short lived as the above mentioned BK2 weights around 19 oz , I'd like to think that my over all stroke and staying down on the break shot helps with my success .

The break is more about accuracy than power.

Then you have proven (to yourself) that it is the Indian not the arrow.
