Brunswick Bristol II

looking for peoples comments on the Brunswick Bristol II all I could really find on line about it is that it is a discontinued model by Brunswick and that it is an entry level pool table. I was wondering if the rails and slate are all the same as any other table made to today's standard. I understand that the table is either press board or MDF but does that really make for a bad table? I am not looking for a family heirloom table just something to put in the garage and practice on. I might be getting this table for a steal and would like to hear from other people about there play ability construction parts avalability if needed and if this would even be worth buying.

I looked at Heritage tables from the mid 70's Good build, and were followed up with the Ventura. Essentially the same table.

Quality Cost Questions

I've come across a used Bristol II for sale and have a couple questions about the table. The person is selling this table because it came with the house and he never uses it. He believes the table is 8 foot, about 20 years or older.

What was the retail on these tables when they were new? I've read comments saying they are slate but the rest is laminated particle board, is that correct? I'd be purchasing this table to put in my garage shop, do i need to be concerned about humidity in the summer being its made of particle board? (no air in my shop).

Just to throw out a scenario, looking for constructive opinions here. If I could get this table for $350-500, is it worth that for just practice and messing around? I may also be able to get a Valley bar box for around $1000 with tighter (pro) cut pockets, new bumpers and felt, and setup on site. Would it still be worth saving the $500-650 purchasing this Bristol?

I have an 8 foot brunswick century table that I bought new in the mid seventies. Yes the legs and the sides of the table are made of press board but the rest of the table is built really well. This table has been in a basement for almost forty years and Still plays like new. If the table does not look abused I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. HOPE THIS HELPS.
