Brunswick Medalist

Hi Pooltablemech,

This is interesting as I lived in Pensacola for a long time in my youth and now live in Vermont. I think our prices are hard to match up as the two regions have many differences that affect price.

I DO think the new Brunswicks are retailing at too high a price up here... and a little searching of the secondary market will yield better results for Dave B.

Wow..........How much more is it for the GOLD CROWN 4. The Medalist is just a cheaper version of the GC. For 4k you could look around for a used Gold Crown if you are set on Bruswick.......A new Diamond Pro is close to 4k.........in a Oak.

I played on Diamonds at the Sands in Reno and I loved them. Currently, I'm playing on newer Diamonds at my local pool hall and, for the most part, I like them a lot. The one problem I have is with the rails. They seem to be raised a little so shooting the cb when it's frozen on the rail is extremely difficult. I talked to one of the guys in Reno that was working on setting up the Diamonds there for the tournament and he said the older Diamonds, in his view, are better tables than the newer ones for the reason I pointed out above. So, if I was going to get a Diamond, I'd be looking for one of the older models. I kind of like the Olhausen pro tables too. I don't know what their cost is but I enjoyed playing on them. As for the GC4's, I've played on some that were fantastic and yet I played on some others that seem to have some dead spots in the rails. If you shoot the cb 3 rails from one side of the table, it might go long. You shoot it from the other side of the table and it might run considerably shorter. Maybe the table wasn't set up right. I'd have to defer to you Pooltablemech.

I have heard some good players say the Diamonds bank truer than any other table, I am not sure which is truer.........But I do notice the differences between the Diamond and the GC4. From my perspective..........I like the GC4 overall. Taking into consideration...............Play, Looks, Setup, Recovery, and resale value. When we set up our first Diamond I was very impressed. But since THEN my views have changed. Not because of lower quality, but because Brunswick finally got off their cans and made the needed improvements in the GC series. Now if they thickened up the slates like Diamond, added a 4th bolt to each rail like Diamond, and steal the nolift leveling system from Diamond............then they will be perfect. A HYBRID.........."GOLD DIAMOND 1"..........JUST ME OWN OPINION!

My old Gandy Big "G" is one fine table. Anyone in here ever played on one. I paid $1,875 moved, set up, with new Simonnis 860. I have had it since 99. Paid for itself in two months.

Those are great tables....and a good price for it setup with Simonis!....The one at my dads house is an older Gandy. It's a Sportsman with the 4 square legs. But he put speed rubber on it, and shimmed the pockets up TIGHT!, and 860 Simonis. That table plays as good as any GC. The older Gandys can be nice tables with a little work if they are in bad shape. But one in good shape playes great!

The Diamond and the GC4 are both great playing tables, If the price was more than $1k difference I would say go with the Diamond.

I have a GC1 in mint condition with 860 Simonis on it and have less than $4k invested.

Yeah if you have the knowledge or can find one already done. That is the way to go.....then you have a collector piece and a great playing table too! If I ever get around to it....we got 8 GC1 eight footers to fix up.

Or you could do as Tommy K. did at his house, get a 5x10, shim the pockets, and call it a pool table :)

I cannot beleive no one has mentioned the Brunswick Centurion. Take a look at that table in the super black finish with the satin chrome trim. That is one sweet table. I am biased though becasue I own one in a pro-8.

They use all the same components as the gold crown, with the exception of leg levelers and a few other goodies. A well setup table wont need all that though!

We sold some of those tables........they lack some of the sturdyness of the better tables. Still a decent table for the price I guess.

PTM- I disagree. They are built on the exact same 8 layer laminated frame as the GC's. My Dealer, who has sold Brunswicks for 20 years, told me they have all the same components except the rails, blinds, and legs.

The table is as solid as a tank.

He lied to you........We were Bruswick dealers too.....till they decided to let the Pool and Spa outlets sell their tables. And said we could have some tables and they could have some.......So we don't deal them anymore, but still have a few left. But anyway....they are not the same frames. And no where near the same table. They are a cheaper version of the higher dollar tables. Like you said....the rails are different, the legs are different, the skirts are different.............the only thing left is the FRAME which is different, the SLATES which are different, and the CORNER CASTING which are different! Nothing wrong with the table, but it is NOT compareable to the GC at all. Take a look at the frame of your table then go check out a GC frame.......you can see the difference from just looking under the table. They might be made of the same material, maybe......but they are alot different.
