How can they not be good? They show tips from a master.

Well being great at something is NOT an indicator of being a good teacher of that same discipline. All we have to do is look at pro sports and all the great players who failed miserably as coaches. Every time I think of the job the great Bob Cousy did as a coach I cringe.

I have many, many instructional videos including both of the afformentioned videos by Buddy Hall.

"The Clock System" is simplistic in that it shows you where the cue ball will end up when you apply various applications of english. He uses different shot setups (cue ball and object ball only) to illustrate his teachings. You can hit english at 12 o'clock, 11 o'clock, ten o'clock etc as you use the front of the cue ball and imagine it as a clock face. You set up and hit the exact same shots "around the clock" and your lesson is learned

For the new player this info will help for sure, while the experienced player won't learn (as) much.Buddy briefly runs over some basic fundamentals and shows HIS method of applying english using tuck and roll. His tuck and roll method will have you glancing your english across the cue ball face instead of straight through it.It's simuliar to backhand english ,however, applied (all in one moving motion)by altering the course of the backhand DURING the stroke. It might be difficult to master for some, however, Buddy is deadly with it and it's certainly worth taking a look at.

"How to win from Here" is much more advanced. In this video Buddy sets up 25 or so shots and shows you how to get shape with different options and also how to create angles for posistion when angles just aren't there. The experienced player will be able to make a lot of these shots , however, some of them will require some extra talent(or hard practice) of which Buddy is so blessed.

The DVD will offer better sound and picture quality, however, I would imagine the instruction offered is exactly the same as the previously realeased older videos. RJ

ps. Overall (depending on your abilities) Buddy's videos are good to very good, however, not great.Having said that, learning one good thing from a video, makes the video worth owning and I learned quite a few things from those two videos for sure.Perhaps they are great afterall.

This is a super-duper synopsis and critique of the Clock System done like Siskell & Ebert. I just hope you're still the one that's living, Jonesy. :p
