Buffing PRC rails fail

Been using the bees wax along with a mild cleaner just to keep finger prints down. It ended up dulling the rails down by taking the factory finish off. I ordered some of the PRC compound from diamond and did a test rail. Came out splotchy so I just wiped it off. Anyone have tips for doing this correctly? Used a small cordless polisher 2500 rpm's. Just a black foam pad wasn't trying to cut the surface just lay this down as polish.

Can you get a small piece and experiment.
I gave up for now. Beeswax did nothing for me. I used Murphys to clean it up a little. My rails look similar to what you have.
Not sure how the Novus kit would work as it’s more for plastic/fiberglass.

black ANYTHING is a major pia to take care of. Its gonna get dirty and show smudges/fingerprints easy. Just wipe it off with a damp cloth every now-n-then and don't sweat it. Its a pool table, not heirloom furniture.
Oh I know. Unfortunately I have OCD like tendencies so I clean a lot. I have the right buffing compound. I think I need to strip the rails first. Anyway I just wiped it all down with Alcohol last night and will leave it until I can talk with Glen or get some advice here.

OCD works. Pimpy matters.

Wax will get cloudy, especially when applied often, or too heavily.

I would be looking at using a wax remover, maybe the same stuff they use for auto body prep. It's called, 'wax and grease remover.'

Other options include mineral spirits, turpentine, vinegar/water. Always test on an inconspicuous area.

Just buff that shit with a microfiber towel. $10 for a dozen at walmart or autozone. You can even wet it if it's horribly dirty. Microfiber will take off skin oils with no cleaners, just a dry cloth and a bit of pressure and elbow grease.

Def can. That diamond stuff I tested out is not coming off. I laid it down thick lol. I phoned Glen and he said stay away from the diamond compound. He said buff using cleaner wax after stripping the rails and finish it with megs gold. He said if I follow this method I can just use a detail spray and finger prints are not an issue. Glen said to stay away also from the yellow bees wax in a can. I can confirm it makes finger prints much worse. If you don't mind a duller look I was using the chemical guys cleaner used for nav screens etc. It dries streak free but does dull down the finish.

I guess Glenn is banned at least for awhile. I will miss having him around but he is going to be servicing my state so I am pumped about that.

in the future just wipe it down occasionally. no need to buff it. no offense brother but in 40+yrs of playing this is the first time i've ever heard of someone buffing the rails on a pool table. kinda overboard on the retentive scale.

I considered a Mark Gregory Cent. His are 100% first class furniture aside from an amazing playing table. I’d probably never let anyone(banger) touch it. Yes a pool table is a work table but also a thing of beauty. Nothing wrong with keeping it spit shined. I’m using a damp cloth for now but if the PRC can be hi-polished show me the buffer. No offense to your thoughts to not polish. Personal choice. I like to keep some things showroom appearance…. Including some cues. But I will use them and the table. Otherwise when I croak someone else will. And beat the snot out of them. To be continued. Following the thread.

I use a car buffer and Meguiar's® Cleaner Wax to buff GC pool table rails on restoration projects :) It definitely makes them look nicer. That Formica is TOUGH. Takes some minor scratches/ scuffs. I like the idea of people taking care of the tables.
