Building your own pool table

I am starting this topic for anyone like me who are interested in building your of win pool table. I would like to do this myself, but it’ll be a few years for me as money is tight and I have a vintage Valley coin table I am restoring at the moment.

So why would you want to do build a table? Well, many reasons really. Maybe you are like me and have a themed room you are building and want something that’ll match with the room you are doing. Something that you could customize and build the way you want? I’m my case; I am doing a Celtic/Irish Pub themed game room. I haven’t seen many tables that I just really liked that would go along with this theme. Or maybe you just want the satisfaction of building a table yourself. So why not?

What I want to do is to get together a list of resources on here for building billiard tables of all styles.

If you’ve built a table, share some pics!

If you have plans or know of places to get or buy billiard table plans, share them!

Know of some resources for wood, slate, billiard table parts? Stick it on here!

I don’t want to just stick to 7’, 8’, and 9’ pool tables. If you have experience, resources, or information on other styles of billiard tables like Snooker, Carom, Russian, Bagatelle, Bar Billiards, Bumper Pool, etc., please share! There must be some good resources for some of these in the U.K. I’d bet.

I myself have a full shop of wood tools, and the will to do it... but of course lack the funds right now. But I want to get everything I can together for people like me who wish to build their own table. I plan on building my own 9' table, but I also want to build a few other tables. I think doing a 12' would be a great challenge as well as building a Bar billiards and Bagatelle table. Maybe I'll become good enough at it to turn it into a career. :D

Russian Pyramid

Here is a great link with handy drawings and diagrams of rails for various table styles. Some great info on Russian tables, but also Snooker and Pool!

You can put the link in google translate to convert the page to English if you wish.

There's even a link at the top pf the page that'll take you to a newer website with even more useful images.

Slate - Where to buy?

So it seems that the best thing to start with when building any kind of table is the slate itself as this will allow you to build a cabinet which mates up well with the slate. I have found one supplier for pool table slate:

I'd like to get some more one here. Anyone know where to buy Snooker or Carom table slate? What about a supplier who may be able to do these other less common style tables like Russian Pyramid, British Bar Billiards, Bumper pool, and Bagatelle?

Anyone else notice I forgot the "r" in Your in the topic title? Lol

So I'm stilling looking for more slate suppliers. It seems hard to find places selling new billiard slate and when I find them, they just stick to pool tables. I am looking for snooker and carom table slate as well. Plus a place that'll do custom size beds.

And speaking of carom; does anyone know the specs for carom rails? Aren't they taller rails since the balls are larger diameter?
