hi there all

I got this silly question

is there any significant difference in the butt of play cue and break.
I am thinking getting a break cue, i wonder would it be worth to get a break shaft and put ii in on the butt of my old cue.

or better off buying a break cue

thank you :)

check out the OB break shafts. comes with a samsara tip. I got one on my blackheart cue. works pretty damn good

I don't think the butt makes much difference and most break specific cues just have simple butts that aren't that different than most playing cues (Mezz being the exception with their shorter break butt). I had a Viking break cue and the butt was pretty much just a super simple standard Viking butt. I now have a Gilber jump/break and other than the extra joint it's not different than a playing cue and actually makes a pretty super player in a pinch.

So...I think a break shaft is a viable option on an old cue butt, but I'd even go one further and say that just putting a hard tip on your current shaft may be a good option too. If your current shaft is full size (12.75mm-13mm) then I don't think you'd lose much by just using a hard tip. Check out the Samsara tips, just put one on my Gilbert but haven't had a chance to try it out yet...thing is rock hard though, unlike any leather tip I've ever felt. Excited to see how it jumps and breaks.

Thank you for the tips, i might try to sell the old butt and get a cheap break cue or second hand one, since there is not much cue retailer in new zealand and they are ridiculously expensive! And good buying break cue?
