Buying a full size snooker table.

Hi everyone! New member of the forum here. I am recently retired, and currently nearing completion of a recreation room addition to my home, which was designed and sized with a 6X12 snooker table in mind. This table will be used soley for recreation, though I anticipate it getting a lot of use, (being retired and have a lot of retired friends). I grew up in New Zealand, and spent a lot of time in my teens and early twenties, playing on full size tables in the local snooker halls. It has been my dream for some time, to have such a table in my retirement years. I have been looking at the Refinement, Elegance, Millennium and Prince models offered at www.billiard-place.com, and I would appreciate any comments on the following questions.

Comments on the quality of these tables?

Comments on dealing with Billiard-place.com? (I have tried to contact them by email, but received no rely.... however that was in the middle of the holidays, and my message may have got overlooked). I need to try them again, but thought I'd solicit opinions here first.

Any other sources of full size snooker tables in N. America, (I'm in N. California)?

Any other advice for someone with little knowledge, and no experience with buying a table.

I look forward to, and will appreciate any replies.

TIA
Kevin.

Kevin,

That is great news!! Congratulations. I put one in a year or so ago and am very happy I did.

Not sure about the quality of the ones you are looking at. However, I will caution you about finding a QUALIFIED mechanic to do the installation. If you are in California, I would suggest contacting Alan Morris from the United States Snooker Association. He will certainly know of a mechanic for you.

Good luck!

Mike

There was a huge thread on Billiard Place

http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=2352074

The complainer lacked credibility. But given the lack of response from them to your queries, you might like to read.

Billiard Place used to sell Riley snooker tables. Nothing in their website claims that those tables are Rileys.

Rileys website is a pain.

Fatboy has purchased a Riley. you might send him a private message if he doesn't comment on this thread.

We can source you one in the UK, the problem of course is shipping to the USA.

Have you considered a 2nd hand table? You can pick these up for around ?300-?500 and most are in a decent condition. A lot of snooker clubs over here are getting rid of tables for one reason or another and they are going quite cheaply, I was offered 8 the other week from a snooker club struggling for business.

If this is something that interests you then I can certainly get you a quote for shipping (it would have to be floated so takes up to 6 weeks)

@Mike... Thanks, I ceratinly will contact Alan Morris for a mechanic recommendation. Do you have direct contact info for him that you could PM me?

@Scrarmouche.... Thanks for the links. I'm not getting positive vibes re: Billiard Place.... both from the discussion in this forum, and the fact that they didn't reply to my email query. I hadn't considered importing from England, (mostly because I intended to make a trip to a showroom, [in Canada I presumed], before make a decision to buy), but the Riley info has me rethinking that.

@Pete... Thanks.... I'll PM you this evening.
