Buying into a Seeded tournament?

First, let me say this, IF everyone pays the same entry fee, IMO there should NOT be any seeding.

Now my proposition;

Tournament, 9 Ball, World Standard Rules, Double Elimination, Race to 9 on both sides. Limited to 64 players

$200 entry fee gets you a top 16 seed (first 16 players that pony up $200, if you are the promoter or backer, you could buy these spots for your PROs or Horses)
$100 entry fee gets you into the tournament without having to play in a qualifier. (again, first come, first serverd)

The remaining 32 players will play in multiple qualifiers at a much reduced $20 or $25 entry fee. The top place finishers of the qualifiers will receive a paid entry fee for the match ups in the first round with the $100 entry fee players.

Qualifier Formats could be DE race to 4. Top 3 or more finishers get entry.
A 16 player field for $20 entry fee could send 3 players to the tournament.
A 32 player field for $25 entry fee could send 8 players. (32x$25=$800)

These qualifers could be played a few weekends prior to the big tournament, or during the week of the big tournament.

These qualifiers would be a great way for the local players to WIN an entry fee to that BIG tournament. To be able to play at a reduced cost and only have to win the first match to play against a SEEDED player.

I like it Tom! Might open up big tournaments to people who weren't willing or didn't have the dough to play otherwise. And would allow dead money with deep pockets to fund good players winnings.

Sorry I'm 3000 miles away or I'd be going to the ATM! :D

Qualifiers for regional and major tournaments have been done many times in the past and the IPT has its own flavor.

We have a yearly Hardtimes Sacramento CA Jamboree that is a great opportunity for pool rooms all over the west coast to run this type of qualifier. I don't know why more pool rooms don't take advantage of this type of format to send more of their local players to these types of events. Maybe they do and we just aren't aware.

The qualifiers could also add money to cover expenses like food and gas and maybe a nite or two's hotel costs.

Plus it would be great for player introductions to be acknowledged for winning a qualifier sponsored by such and such Room owned by so and so.

Maybe there is a downside to this that I am just not understanding.

i can see your point. i can also see the point of seeding players.

if this were the way things were done, the players who would normally be seeded should get first option to buy the seeds.
