I see that Byrne has a new book out, "Byrne's Complete Book of Pool Shots: 350 Shots Every Player Should Know"

Has anybody read this book? Any good? At first glance it doesn't seem very exciting, compared to his other books...

I have heard many good things regarding the book. Mr. Byrne will b e attending the Midwest Expo on October 15 through 19, 2003. He will be signing autographs and talking about this book. He will be in the Schuler booth #215.

Since my pool books are in dc where I am not, I picked Berne's new book up. I like it a lot. I would say it is for the medium level player, not bothering with basic stuff too much like most books start out with.

I got a chance to see this book at the US Open.. good drawings as usual... advanced shots, good drills.. NOT for the pool newbie..

good book.. I predict it will be a "must have"

Hi Tom:p

The reason I guess I said medium level player is because when I went over these shots over the phone with my hubbie, he said that he already did these shots. Since he is not an A player, that is why I thought that.

I am at best an intermediate and whenever I play pool, am trying out a different shot from this book til I can do it. For me it is great.

Here is an example: He calls this a ticky

Nine ball is in the jaws of left corner pocket. Cue ball is behind another object ball(about 3-4 inches off of the left long rail) such that a kick is not possible to pocket the ball. The player kicks the required object ball into the rail and off of the problem ball to pocket the nine. Here is the wei pic. The game is 9 ball.

Sorry if this is not exact but I think you can get the general pic. I have done kicks around balls to pocket a ball but would never have thought of also using another ball to accomplish this when a kick alone is not possible.

But then, I dont know lots of stuff.;) ;)

Isn't the ticky covered in his original Standard Book?

For those who have read all his books, plus The 99 Critical Shots, does this book have enough new material to warrant buying?

P.S. I really wish somebody would republish The 99 Critical Shots, this time with drawings to scale...

I hope the book isn't half pool and half 3 cushion. Jake

All pool. The only thing I do not see are specific drills on shape and kicks specifically. I need a little instruction on two and three rail kicks to pocket a ball and two and three rail kicks after pocketing a ball for position.

Anybody know a good book that covers those things? I am not too keen on videos. I have gradys tape on kicks, which is great but I cannot take it to the table with me. I like a book I can take to the table with me to try out stuff.

A "little" instruction - that is an understatement if I ever heard one. One can spend a lifetime on that and still not know it all.

And there are tons of books on it - all of them more confusing than the other.

I picked up the "six pack" library by D.W. "Diamond Dave" Thayer, whoever he is, on Ebay for about $8, and printed it out. it makes a lot of sense but will take me forever to retain it. Unfortunately, I don't have forever.

Laura, you go to sams, buy a small tv for $130 that has a vcr on the bottom and comes with a remote, set TV on stand next to home table, then use remote to go to each segwack you are learing from. They video's are a wonderful learning tool used properly. Somebody said you were a alright broad, i'll try to be nice to you if you cool the boo hoo stuff. :D

Thanks danny. Nothing to boohoo about. Just excited about what I am trying to learn.
