Can a cue be made with holly?

Can a cue be made with holly? I've only seen holly used as inlays. I have never seen a cue made from holly, but thinking a white cue would look nice, and be a good background for inlays to stand out. Anyone ever see anything like this?

Well, in theary, any kind of wood can be used for a cue stick but Holly is not a very good choice. It's a very unstable wood and likes to move around quite a bit.

Not saying It could'nt be used, but I would'nt use It for any main part of the body. I have used it for inlay before. Not dense enough IMO, seems too liteweight & porus for me (atleast the pieces I had were), and I've heard It's very unstable as Dick already suggested. It has to be seasoned carefully & for a long time I believe. Atleast that's what I heard, I got mine already seasoned & cut into slabs, and they seemed stable enough for the inlay, but I don't think I would like a forearm or handle made from It. There alot of different woods that people core though. Not sure If I have seen that done with holy yet.

My Blackcreek has holly points into a ebony nose, looks real nice. I remember some time ago seeing a picture here on AZ of a cue with a holly forearm.

Stabalize the Holly...Works well

holly for the main body

I am NOT a cue maker, but I know someone who has a cue with the main portion of it made from holly, and it plays well, and looks good. I have no idea what was done to it though so ooooooooo ..... this may not be much help

Below is a Kikel with quite a bit of holly in it. It is a well balanced, nice playing cue.

aesthetically, i think it's boring as a nose.....if all holly looks like what i see in points, which is very bland/plain.

just buy a cuetec.

holly

Also called Ivory wood, and if you think about it that way or see it that way, the colors of the points and veneers can really make it *sweet* as a backdrop or background. I dont know how, but the one I hit with hit good and the forearearm was holly with points.
