Hi guys...designing a cue for myself, and trying to get it figured out so i can give the cuemaker a really good ideas of what i want. So i have some Candian liniage [sp] in me and am wanting to make this cue with a 'Candian' theme. So i am looking to use Canadian wood in the cue. I know maple is an obvious a choice, but i am wondernig what other woods i could use that have a Canadian feel. By this i mean Canadian origin, obviously i could use maple that wasnt actually from Canada..but it would acomplish the purpose. I can look up lots of wood with Canadian roots, but i have no idea if they are sutable to cue making. any ideas would be apreciated. Also, when it comes to inlays...are there limitations? For instance, if i wanted a inlay of say a beaver outlined in ivory or silver in the butt how hard would this be to do? Could it be done with just about anything, or really just deacls etc? Also, is it possabel to use coins for inlays? Like say a two dollar coin..or is this just a bad idea. THANKS!!! I am just trying to get a start on the design of my cue...the hard part is comming up with the $$.

If you are looking for a dark wood, Walnut would work ok. It is very light but I have built a couple cues out of it. This is curly Canadian Maple and Canadian Walnut

Although I use at least 25 different types of wood in the cues that I build, Maple is about the only Northern American wood that I use. I might use a little Burl here or there for inlays or a coller but that's it. I like mostly rain forrest woods from Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Curly or Tiger Maple are probably my favorite woods with Cocobolo, Ebony and Bocota also in the running.
