Cardiff 2004

I've been playing pool for a few years, but only quite recently started taking it seriously. Since I'm in the UK, I thought I'd make an effort to get to the 9-ball worlds this year.

Has anyone else attended before?
Any advice on ticket costs, if/when I should book tickets (if it'll sell out) and accomodation would be much appreciated.

The world championships won't be in Cardiff next year. It was said last year that it will be held in Asia in 2004. And from what I heard, it will be in Taipei, Taiwan.
 
The World Pool Championships are going to be held in Taipei, Taiwan next year. Originally the Philippines were favourites to get the event but now it looks 90% certain that Taiwan will host them next year.

Its probably a good thing for the game to move it around. As long as its the same promoter and they keep Sid in there I'm happy.
 
my advice is to forget about the 9-ball championship, it's mostly luck. my advice is to purchase a ticket to the snooker world championship at the embassy in sheffield. i belive it's in march, and if you want to see skill, strategy and major endurance, you can't lose!check out mark williams of wales, he is the snooker god!!!
 
I agree Joseph, they are absolutely wild about the game in Taipei and Manila. My S-I-L was teaching english in Taiwan when Fong Pang Chao won the WPC. She said he was a "national" hero with status like Tiger Woods in N. America. I'm sure their coverage of the WPC would and will be second to none!

Thanks for your "advice" Silencer, that 9-ball is luck. I'll remember that next time I'm down 16 zip in a race to 17 against Mr. Rayes...;)

Yup. Think about ESPN Asia and CNN Asia/Europe covering the matches. Newspapers will cover the matches too. Corporate sponsors will be getting in line to have their banners in there.
When Efren won it in '99, he received a hero's welcome at the airport and was give a million pesos ( $45,000 or so). Pao stops everything in Taiwan wherever he goes.
Here? We get crap coverage.
 
Ah well, no worlds for me :(

There's virtually no coverage over here, it's a real struggle to see a high standard of play...
