Carribean Pool?

I'm off to the Carribean for a month next April for the Cricket world cup. I've got tickets for matches in Barbados, Jamaica, and Grenada.

However I will have a few weeks to see other islands after the World Cup before going to vegas for the BCA/VNEA. Therefore I would like to visit island(s) with decent pool halls/players.

Any advice much appreciated?

Hiya Craig! You should talk to Harold Acosta from Puerto Rico. I forgot his name on here but he posts here. I'm off to a meeting and soon as I come back, I'll search for you.

I've been to Barbados many times, and played pool often. I like to hang out in the St. Lawrence Gap. The last time I was there I was able to play every nite. The bar is now closed, but most bars have a pool table and the Bajuns enjoy the competition. When they saw me shoot, word got around that a tourist could actually play and different players showed up every nite. Be careful.

Ive seen AZ articles on Aruba and P.Rico so know they have good places to play just wondered about the islands i'll be visiting and any other decent places.
 
Hey TheOne!

I actually grew up in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands just east of Puerto Rico. There are only about 3 bar tables on the whole island! I played a little there in high school but didn't really get started until college. Haven't been to St. Thomas in a while but I doubt it's changed any.

Sounds like Puerto Rico should be on your agenda.

Aruba

Aruba is the hotspot for pool. I think it's in the Caribbean, isn't it? But it is the pool destination, as well as a great spot for all other relaxation and entertainment.
 
Thanks Andy/Chesscat, will try and check out both. P.Rico for sure seems to have some strong players. I'll probably forget pool altogether but thought I'd do some homework! :p

Hey Craig, Puerto Rico should be one of your stops for sure. Harold is the President of the Billiard Federation over there. You've met some of the players at the Big Apple Tourney and at the US Open last year I'm sure.
 
San Jaun PR

Seniorita Wendy & TheOne,

Pls. be careful in downtown San Jaun. Was there for a 6 day visit 4 years ago. Had more than one local warn me about downtown after dark. Supposedly the crime rate was/is like 5 times that of Detroit. Would be sure to be in a small group while night-clubbing.

Personally I had no problems knocking around the nightclubs there. Had a great time as I was in the "happy fishing tourist" mode. Did not see a pool table during my quick visit but surely a knowlegeable local can steer you right. I would guess you've seen Harold Acosta on this forum and CCB - he would be the ultimate source of info.

Have a great trip - wish I was going!:)

There are a couple of tables on Antigua. While playing pool against some English blokes they decided to teach me how to play beach cricket. Beach cricket's other name is "let's make the American swim for the ball every F$#*#&% play!" They were in the Carribean following the Cricket. They were having a blast. You're going to have a great time.

Hoist a pint or two for me if you get the chance.

Your post didn't mention Antigua, so I didn't pipe in right away, but if you go there pm me and I'll send you some information.
