They are easy to find or make.

If you are turning cue stock though you are more concerned with making sure you are getting a center line with the grain. Even if the piece turns off center at first once you true it up you have a better center line. For shafts this is a must.

Thanks guys I have a woodcraft store 4 miles from my home so I'll pick one up tomorrow and probably pay a little more instore than online but no shipping will round out the deal. Leonard

If your stock is already round, why don't you just chuck it up and center drill it. That should be done anyway. You should support the back if you can. By the way I also use one of those jigs from woodcraft. They are great as long as you don't drop them.

good luck, Jim.

Allready round stock?

you can make a jig to make accurate center punch marks very quick. If all are the same size, then use some larger diameter delrin, Face it in your lathe, then cut a pocket with a flat faced boring bar, then center drill it, and drill a hole long enough for a long center punch or a stell rod to slide into. Then put this on top of your round stock, give the center punch a hammer wack, and you have the center located. If your rounds vary in diameter a little you can make this tool with an inside surface like a tapered cone instead of flat. Then with minimal care you will still be able to mark the center, easy huh? But as mentioned earlier it is more accurate to chuck up and center drill, but before i have one hole center drilled I can be tapering my marked and chucked between centers dowel! Call me Len ...
