CF Sanding Screwup

Sanded a little too much on my 1st shaft, and it created this wavy ring. What can I do to fix or hide the blemished area? It's smooth as can be, just ugly.

Not much you can do about that on CF without having to add a colored finish to cover it up and hope to sand/polish. You may be able to "fake" it by coloring the ring and offending area to make the shaft joint ring look wider but in most cases, I'd say you are probably stuck with it. IMHO.

I have some 423 graphite powder and some epoxy, see if I can mix some up and tape off the shaft and thin a layer on with a poker card. See if that works 🤷‍♂️

Judging by the change of angle at the collar, I'd toss it. I'd also never post that photo for all to see.

Not much info out their right now on fixing CF shafts. These manufactures are guarding the secrets. I'd be inclined on checking with an automotive forum

Well, the change in angle was on purpose. The cue it's going on is a McDermott that's a little fatter in the joint than the cf shaft. Also, I have no issues posting screw ups. How else is anybody gonna learn? And don't give me that...let em find out on their own...BS. if this post helps someone or give them new ideas on how to do something...GREAT! That's what this forum SHOULD be about, helping others WITHOUT judgement. Cause we've all messed something up, guaranteed.

I'm glad you got a solution to your problem. I would have suggested trying the same thing with black CA glue. It's easier to put on thin coats.

I'd say you did a pretty nice job on saving that one.

So, the black epoxy created the appearance that the black ring at the joint is now wider. Is that the case? The two pictures appear to have different joint widths (lengths, whatever).

Regardless, it looks a ton better!

Yeah, that way it's a more smooth transition to the end instead of a fast "bump" if you will. Oh, and ty btw lol

Nice repair!
Thanks for posting process.

OTOH, now that you have the solution down, 5 min epoxy is among the least durable.
Compared to longer setting formulations.
