chalk criteria

There has been a great deal of discourse on Kamui & Blue Diamond chalk etc.

If a chalk is easy to apply & most importantly prevents miscues, is there anything more which can be expected?

In my opinion, no.
I chalk just about every time before I shoot...it is a big part of my pre shot routine. As long as the edges of the tip have chalk, that is really all that matters. (the middle of the tip is the only part that really doesn't even need chalk...it's the edges that are critical)

There is an awful lot about this game that is mental. I believe you will find players who believe different chalk will make them play better. And if they believe it, they may be right.

My biggest gripe with some brands of chalk is that they tend to get a little messy. Keeping a towel handy resolves that issue for me. I use Master chalk with no problems at all.

Again, just my opinion, based on half a century of playing.

I recently started using Silver Cup chalk. So far I'm liking it. I also switched to a layered tip, a Wizard. I haven't miscued since switching to the new chalk and the tip helps with english. My game has improved over last session. This session I finished with a 11-4 in 9-ball and 18-8 in 8-ball. I moved up to an APA 5 in 9-ball and a 6 in 8-ball.

I believe that my pre-shot routine has improved as well. Last session I lost my pocket chalker around the 6th week and didn't get a new one till the beginning of this session. I found that I was always reaching for the chalker when it wasn't there and I think this threw off my pre-shot routine.

Now if I could just teach my opponents to put the chalk down on the table correctly I wouldn't go home with blue forearms. I have been mean and removed chalk from the table when my opponent is putting it chalks side down.

thank you

As always, we are fortunate to have you as the definitive sword fatally slashing all of these myths.

It some times seems like people are looking for chalk which can function as an auto-pilot device on the cue while they go have a beer.
