Chalk Holders?

Hello AZB,
I've recently rediscovered billiards, I used to play as a teenager in my friends basement. My girlfriend and I have been visiting some local parlors and plan to have a home table when we have a home.

Do players typically use something to keep chalk in while playing? I believe I've heard its rude to leave the chalk on the table, so I don't want to be disrespectful. There are no places to place the chalk at most points of the table.

Good luck!

In where I came from(Taiwan). Its not rude to put the chalk on the table, just make sure the chalk doesn't face down and gets the whole table dirty with chalk powder.

And only in big tournaments(not those typical club tournaments) we tend to take away our chalk as soon as your done with your turn.

I would agree. The most important thing is to place the chalk face up so the chalk does not get on the table rails. You should also avoid chalking your stick over top of the table.

Chalk Holders

I agree with the other comments.

Do not chalk your cue over the table
Chalk your cue at an angle so the excess dust doesn't fall right onto your hand
Do not place the chalk on its side or face down.

I see some players use chalk holders for convenience (they always have the chalk on them and they dont have to walk around the table to get it) and security (their chalk is always on them and therefor will not walk away in another players hands).

Some poolhalls near me supply good chalk with each table and they always keep it supplied. While other poolhalls sell chalk and therefor do not supply it. In the poolhall that doesn't supply it for its patrons, you want to keep an eye on your own chalk or keep it in a chalk holder and on your persons the whole time.
