For about the last 2 months i have been shooting like garbage and getting beat in 1 pocket by players that i use to kill. SO i figured it was time to change. about 2 weeks ago i started to change my stance and grip on the cue and the improvement is much better. I have been shooting even better since ive change those 2 things. I am more comfortable approaching the table and taking longer straighter shots. My grip is much more loose and comfortable and when i use to play my friend lou he gave me 10-6 and now we are playing even and the games go back and forth. My high ball run before i change this was 4 and now i am running 4 more and more with a high of 7 balls. My break has gotten much better and i pocket a ball on about 40% of my breaks. the table we play on has even tighter pockets now since there are 2 shims on each side of the bottom pockets so you have to shoot well to win. before the table was recovered you could fit 2 balls in the pockets and now you cant. I am loving this game more and more everytime i play. tonight i will be playing for about 5-6 hours straight since i got no work tonight. hopefully some of the older players are there so i can play them cause i have yet to because i would have gotten killed even with the 11-5 spot now i think my chances are pretty good to be in a game i could win. my goal is to be able to play this guy Louie King. thats his real name. he shoot the best in the pool hall out of the regulars and i would love to play him 10-6 and win. I know i have a long way to go but I will get there. sorry for the long post but im to happy with the way i have been shooting.

A GOOD STANCE IS VITAL

A good stance is important. My pool stance is a lot like my fighting stance in Karate, my weight is equally balanced and if I wanted to I could rock forward or backward. My knees are slightly flexed, you do not want the joints locked. Above all it must be comfortable and natural for you. My left toe is almost parallel to the shaft, it toes in a little and my right foot is 45 degrees to the right of that line. I am fairly wide and in what you would call a classic snooker stance.

I can show you 30 pool greats who have 30 different stances and they all worked. A good stance means you can play 12 hours straight with no dis comfort. No two players are the same which is why there are so many ways people stand at the table. A lot of good stances can be learned from books. Having your weight equally balanced is a good idea, 50% up front, 50% back, if you lean forward or are back on your heels neither of these is not good.

Congratulations!!! Glad you are doing better. I have not thought about my stance for awhile. I just try to line up the shot correctly and swing the cue straight. Guess I am pretty simple about all of that stuff.

Glad your new stance is helping you with your game.;)
