Changes in Pool during my hiatus from 2014-2018

So back when i first started playing in 2011, I remember the pool industry being in a seemingly all time low. Then around 2014, I changed my career, adopted a dog, got a new apartment, and a shoestring budget since no raise. Also in terms of league, we all got boosted up in handicaps, no one wanted to play anymore, and it got boring hitting around a table by myself lol.

So I effectively took time off and restarted brazilian jiu jitsu instead

Fast forward to today: a group of friends just pulled me into APA league, our first season we made it to the city wide finals (but lost, so no vegas). Anyway I'm back :)

Now I wanted to make this post of things I noticed now. Maybe some of you can help me fill in the blanks on a couple. Here are things I noticed:

- Now everyone and their mother has a layered tip and an LD shaft. The options are crazy and overwhelming. Good thing I'm just sticking to good old stock Schon Shaft with Pooldawg8's Milkdud :)

- I see waaay more tournaments that are broadcasted nowadays (due to the advancement of streaming technology)

- There's a huge surge in purchasing entry level production cues as pool is popular again? Though most of the popularity is bar leagues though around here.

- My pool beauties. What happened to Xiaoting Pan? I could've sworn she was top 3 in the world for women back in 2011. I youtube search and can barely find her competing in much recently (or winning) other than a small handful. Also it seems her shot went down coincidently after some of her plastic surgery (double eye lid..maybe nose job. Very common asian surgeries). Not saying they're connected, but maybe she took more time off? My first time seeing her "new look" was her exhibition vs Ronnie O'Sullivan and I wondered why she looked different. Don't get me wrong, she'll run me into the round any day, but it seems she's not playing as well as she once did. Ga young and Jasmin (my other crushes) on the other hand seem to be just as strong if not even better (esp Jasmin)! Also where's Yu Ram Cha? This is where I'm most curious and hoping someone has some detail lol.

- I'll probably write another post about this some time later, but after basically owning all levels of cues from cuetec to cognoscenti and bender, I ended up just falling in love with a standard Schon. Funny how that works but it's all personal preference.

All in all, glad to be back!

She still plays strong..,

Xiaoting Pan is still playing Very high level Pool, but I think she has a couple of Pool halls and another business as well. She doesn't travel much so you'll have to catch her on the China streams.
