changing cue tip during match

a few days ago, I played one of my first matched in pool (against people from a different pool club. so new people to me).

The first ball I hit after my oponent broke the rack (a soft shot even), my cuetip just falls apart.
The 'top layer' if you will, just fell off. Leaving the curved top of the tip lying on the cloth. Not the entire cuethip fell off, just 'a layer' of it.

luckily my oponent had everything on hand to repair a cuetip. Seeing how it was a friendly game, he gladly helped me replace my tip (never done that before).

Since we decided to let the glue dry for about 15 minutes before playing, he recommended me to change my cuetip again when I got home, and leave it to dry overnight. Seeing how shortly after the repair I played with it, he said the tip might come loose again.

However, I've played several hours with that cuetip again, and it seems even more solid then before.

Should I really cut off this new cuetip again, and change it just to let it dry overnight?
It seems solid to me. Anyone have experience/wisdom in this area?

ps: it's not the cost of the drop of glue and the tip I'm worried about. I know it's not expensive.
Just that I've only done it 1 time now, and I don't wanna mess up my cue doing it wrong. Would rather not take the risk, if it's not needed.
If people here advise me to change it though, I'll do it.

if it is playing fine it should be fine. you need two shafts so this isnt a problem next time. and buy quality tips and make sure they are put on correctly.

A second shaf might not be a bad idea.

What tips do you recommend? Since I'll have to go buy some.
Not sure what my oponent gave me to put on there.

The tip that was on there, was the original tip (cue was maybe 5-6 weeks old. A longoni Maxum).

there are some threads on cue tips. order from a billiard supply company and dont get them from a box store. pay at least a couple of bucks a tip. decide if you want a soft tip or a hard one. you dont agonize over a tip but get a decent one that you can afford and learn to shape it when it expands.
try to break if you break very hard with a different stick. as hard breaking is tough on a tip.

Twice I have replaced a tip and played with it 30 minutes later. both times I played for 5+ hours and the tip was fine. The first time the next day after I replaced the tip it popped off in the first two or three shots, that happened both times. So maybe it is better to replace and let it sit over night...

I would say that it depends on the type of glue used and whether the tip was installed correctly or not.

best thing to do is take it to your local repair man and have them do it, on all my tips if it pops off in a week ill replace it guarenteed.

in order for the glue to hold you have to have a good flat face on the ferrel and sand the bottom of the cue tip to open the pores so it will accept the glue, and then use a high quality glue.

and a side not super glue does go bad, you have to change it regularly.
