Changing threads

Curious as to the difficulty of changing the thread on a shaft from 5/16x14 to 3/8x14. Wouldnt the insert just need to be bored out a bit or is it even possible without getting all western on it ??

Going from 5/16" to 3/8" would probably not be practical. There wouldn't be enough wall thickness to bore it out and re-tap it without danger of the insert turning into a loose brass spring. I would avoid the change if possible but if it was necessary to change the size I'd probably remove the old insert, plug the shaft with phenolic and bore and tap the phenolic to accomodate the larger pin.

Sherm, Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering as the extra 1/16th didnt sound that much bigger but I guess it could turn out to be.
