Hi all. I will be in the Charleston, WV area over the weekend, and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of a place to play in either Charleston or Huntington. I don't play on bar boxes, and would really like to find a place with some Diamonds or tight Gold Crowns. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, if any AZ'ers are planning on being around on Saturday night, and would like to meet up and hit some balls, it would be my pleasure.

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

In huntington, there is TJ's billiards on 4th street in downtown next to Marshall university.
In Charleston there is probably the greatest hidden pool hall in North america called Whitey's sandwich shop. In Whiteys there is tons of action of all levels but the owner Whitey passed away about a year ago and it from what i have heard has slowed down a bit.

In huntington there is also another pool hall owned by the same owner of Tj's a few miles down the same road called Classic billiards but it has only bar tables. Tj's has 7 foot diamonds and 9 ft diamonds only i believe now.

hope that helps

the owner himself is a good player and if you are looking for actions he will send a word to the guys like danny Brown.

lol the owner is not a good player initials JN i think you mean. He thinks he is a good player but is nittier than a knat lol. Danny brown has had lots of health problems and plays know where near how he used to BUT is one of the BEST guys in the world to gamble with and a great friend of mine. Danny will play about anyone any game cheap and have fun while doing it!!! In Charlston if you play real good you can play Travis or Andy Stanley or the kid. In huntington depending on the game you can play a few nine ball and people like keith jones or mike stiltner one pocket.

Thanks cincyman. I did a forum search and saw somewhere that Whiteys was only open on weekdays. Is that still the case, or would they be open on a Saturday now?

Thanks again,
Aaron

the restaurant is only open on weekdays and for only 3 hours a day lol.. trust me when you see the place you will understand (it will all come together lol) But yes it is open on the weekend to play pool!!

There used to be a king of the hill pool tourney at the end of each month. Sad about losing Whitey, nice man, always had a game in him.
We haven't been up since he passed away, so not sure of the action.
They used to have the best chilli dogs there.

they still have that tourny the last saturday of every month. And yes Whitey would always "do soemthing" he told me he never sent a road player away with any cash lol meaning if they came to town he would donate a little.

That 9 foot diamond may be the toughet table i ever played on!!
And yes the chili dogs are good and still are from what i hear:thumbup:

Isn`t keith from Milton the death valley of WV?

isn`t Jay Nelson the owner of the places you mentioned? Many years ago he played in the National fireman`s pool tournament.I think that he was placed 4th in that tournament.

Yeah Keith is from milton. And yes Jay owns the place but he is anything but a GOOD player i n the sense i am thinking. Yes he can run out a rack of 8 ball on a bar table but, he wouldnt play some road player short stops when offered the 5 ball or the last 4 and in my opinion i cannot classify him as a "good" player but he is probably an APA 5 or 6 if that means anything.
