Chris Melling's Stroke - Impressive

I just watched a youtube match from Derby City - Melling vs Orcollo in 9-ball. First time I've watched Melling play - very impressive. His long rhythmic stroke with the pause at the back is very reminiscent of Buddy Hall's stroke, but with a classic snooker stance, and plays at a nice fast pace, unlike Buddy.

Hard to believe he has not been on the Mosconi Cup team in recent years. Apparently he gave the snooker tour a shot for a few years, but has now come back to concentrating on pool the past few years, and is making quite an impact. A fun player to watch, unlike the grindingly slow pace of Orcollo in this match.

Melling is quick normally, but they were both slow in spots in this match. It was 9-7, right (I didn't watch the whole match closely), in 2½ hours, for an average of 9.4 min./game. The last game was a doozy, taking about 24 min. despite 3 balls being pocketed on the break. Prior to that last game, they had motored along at a speedy :) 8+ min./game. But this was a semifinal match, so they were playing quite carefully. Van Boening and Morra had finished their semifinal match at about 11:47 pm by my clock, so Morra (and viewers) had a long wait until the finals (which started at about 1:13 am by my clock).

Hey, the guy won the China Open. That is about as tough a tournament that there is.
He has been a great player for a while now, and, like you, I love watching him play. I can`t watch slow players, just don`t know what the hell they are thinking about most of the time.

Guys i remember watchin this cat when he was skinny! He's played pro level snooker, english 8b and american-style pool. I'll tell ya something else he does VERY well is commentate. One of the best color guy's in the booth you could ask for. During DA's WPS he joined-up with Varner in the booth and was dead-on in just about every situation. BTW, that 8ball out with the masse and the 4railer was truly epic.

After watching the video with the 4 railer again, I noticed that the 3 on the break follows almost the exact same path.

Was that his inspiration for the final 1 ball???
I think it was.

I love watching Chris Melling play. He’s a fun guy. That being said, there isn’t any “classic snooker” in his stance.
