Scruggs sneaky.jpg

A good playing buddy of mine borrowed my almost perfect Scruggs SP recently. He happens to be one of the better wheelchair players nationally. In the process of rowing/wheeling around on a coarse ceramic floor he knocked a rectangular chunk out of the black buttcap about the size and depth of a penny. :( The TS logo was not affected. Sorry don't have pics of the new scar.

My question is: Is a delrin butt patch/repair likely to be durable?? Is it applied on as a paste , allowed to dry then cut and polished on a lathe? If it's only a temp fix I may just Have Tim replace the TS cap. Do NOT want to lose the TS logo.

Don't have a local cue builder that I'd trust. Have had great experiences with Scott Sherbine's Profecient Billiards refinishes.

Sure appreciate you thoughts - just want my killer bacote sneaky back in mint shape.:) What would you suggest?.

The key word is DELRIN, don't waste your time with a patch. If you want Mr. Scruggs logo then you need to send it to him or Bob Frey, I beleive he has the okay to duplicate the logo.

A friend of mine had the butt cap of his Scruggs replaced by Scruggs a couple of weeks ago (sig and all). If I recall correctly, the charge was $80 or $90 with a fairly decent tournaround....

Regards,

Ds

From the photo it looks like your butt cap is black linen based phenolic.

I think you woud never be happy with a patch or fill no matter how good it was done.
Send it back to Scruggs, pay the money for a new butt cap, and be happy.

Lesson learned ... NEVER loan your cue to ANYONE!

Thx for your input guys.

Replacing the cap appears the way to go. Mr. Scruggs lists replacing a butcap as $150 plus shipping of course. Ouch. Hope salamanders cost est is closer.

As Mike suggested might check with Bob Frey.

Like Willee says, "lesson learned". Glad I kept hold of my 4 Pt TS Hoppe ring. Happy rolls to you-

I would send it back to Tim. I had him replace the butt Cap on my sneaky pete eight years ago and he only charged me $60.00 and the turn around was very quick. Oh and he also engraved his logo.
