cleaing and maintaining butt of the cue

There are tons of posts about keeping the shaft clean and maintaining it's smootheness, but what about taking care of the butt section? Not the wrap, but the forearm and butt sleeve. I've heard that many cues are finished with an automotive type finish. I was wondering if you could use automotive waxes and finishes to keep your cue nice and shinny. Wind and dirt alone will eventually dull the finish of your car no matter how often you wash it. Likewise, just handling your cue or slipping it in and out of your case will cause the really shiny finish to be less shiny.

Does anyone condition the finished part of thier cues? Even my best ding and dent free cue isn't as shiny as the day I got it and that's just from normal play. If cuemakers use finishes similar to cars wouldn't it stand to reason that every few months or once a year, you should treat your finished section with something? Also while I'm on the subject, if one of my cues has a ever so slight blemish from a scratch couldn't I use those car products to cover up that minute scratch?

I use Meguiar's Scratch X polish as needed for fine scratches and surface hazing, and then finish it off with Meguiar's Classic Gold liquid wax. I always get good results and a knockout shine. Both products are clearcoat safe. I wax my regular playing cue and break / jump cue every two or three weeks, and I have not seen any bad effects from the waxing.
