is it just me, or does it seem like balls will find the pockets better if they are clean? i mean just polished, waxed, whatever.

seems like to me after i clean the balls and get them nice and slick like the way they were brand new right out of the box they have a tendency to be more friendly. especially on shots where they slide down the long rail towards a corner pocket.

i dunno, is it just me? am i way out in leftfield on this one?
or do you guys agree?

and do you posters out there ever polish/wax your cue ball?

THIS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL, GUYS.
Clean balls will find the hole easier. No bull........ When the balls are dirty, your aimming at a spot that has a build up on it, and this will change the angle and you miss or do not hit the pocket as you wanted to.
Never wax the balls, wax draws dirt and whatever. use a good phenolic polish, made for phenolic, [pool balls are phenolic]. If you can afford a ball cleaner, buy one, this will change your game and make it better.

"Train as you fight" is an Army doctrine applicable to pool.....when a decent pool hall moves into my town with clean balls and decent tables I'll clean my balls...as long as I'm relegated to playing on dirty bar tables in skank infested biker dives I'll keep playing with dirty balls. Dirty or clean at least I'm still playing with balls.

p.s. it's hard not to giggle like a 13 year old when discussing the merits of dirty or clean balls.

We've been cleaning our 19 racks of balls every day fror 15 years with a Bludworth Ball cleaner. We use the special soulution provived by blud and no one has ever complained about a dirty ball in my room.

You, I believe, are the exception, and we thank you. Next thing you know you'll be telling us you clean your tables too. ;-)
I hate it when you spend 15 minutes on a table and the palm of your bridge hand is so blue it looks bruised. I could live with the dirt if it didn't effect the game.

choke,

I play in both environments so I am in a constant quandary as to whether to clean or not to clean :)

We brush our tables every day, and vaccum twice a week. We also use a semi wet wrag once a week also. I feel we have the cleanest tables and balls of any pool hall I have ever been to.

Once a month we take down 100 high line Dufferine cues sticks, wipe down the shafts and ferrells with the green scrungie thingy. We re tip the house cues all the time with Le Pro's. My manager is a fanatic about keeping the equipment in perfect shape. Our customers really appreciate our efforts because we here stories all the time of the conditions they find at other places. Our bathrooms are so clean you could eat off the floors as well.

I play 3 cushion billiards occasionally at World Class Billiards in Peabody, MA. I noticed that they clean the tables with a damp cloth after use and the tables are immaculate and I cannot remember ever having a dirty green hand after playing. Why don't regular pool halls clean their tables with a damp rag? Does it wear down the cloth quicker? or are they just lazy. I also noticed that most pool halls that do brush down their tables, don't take more than 30 seconds to do so and this doesn't appear to work. Again is it just laziness, because most pool hall employess have some down time in their day to clean the tables correctly.

Is the Bludworth a noisy machine? In the room i know that has one it'si very noisy, but it could be because of the way it's mounted in the counter top. It sure does do a great job of cleaning those bastards, tho!

Yes it is noisy but the balls are supposed to be cleaned before your customers arrive. Most finer establishments, vaccum the floors, brush the tables and clean the bathrooms before the customers come through the door.

noise

Ok guys, in my defence. The ball cleaner is not very noisy. If it's counter mounted and dose not have a shelf under it to support the machine at [26 lbs,] and the weight of the balls, it's heavy and noisy. If it's not mounted and sitting on the bar or on the floor all you get is a little rumbling noise. This has never hurt anyone.
Thanks for the plugs.

The place i play does clean their balls before customers get there. I just heard the machine one time when i was there for the finals of a one pocket league match, and the leugue operator gave them an extra spin in the machine right before the match began. Otherwise i never would have heard it. I think we will go with the Bludworth. Thanks Chalks and Blud.
