So I met up yesterday for a bit of coaching from a local player I'd met recently, one of the better players in the area from what I can tell. We spent that hour working on several things with my stance, my stroke, etc.
Later on that evening, I brave the snow (yay snow!) to head over to a nearby watering hole with a few bar tables, just to practice some more. I end up shooting some games with the bar owner and some of the regulars. I end up cleaning up! Two eight-ball runs in a row to start off. Owner breaks, comes up dry, I run out. Next game, I break, come up dry - other guy shoots, misses - I run out. I only lost one game all evening.
Tonight will be a fun time - little local tournament that the local player mentioned above also plays in. Amusingly, last week, I played this guy three times - once in winners bracket, and then twice coming from losers bracket at the end, winning those two matches to win the tournament. I wonder how I'll do against him tonight
I know he wasn't shooting "seriously" last week so I wonder if he'll be more serious this week...
So the moral of this story is - if you've been considering going to a coach or instructor - DO it. It HELPS. There's no substitute for having someone observing you from the outside and helping tweak your game.
