I have seen Coker cues on here quite a bit, but I have no idea who makes them, who trained the cuemaker, inspiration, etc. Anything you know about this brand which you would like to share?

Tom Coker

From a Cuemaker bio:
"In 1990, master craftsman, engineer & retired jeweler, Tom Coker, pursued his long time passion of cue making and founded
Coker Cues in Sacramento, California. With the exception of an occasional apprentice, Coker Cues is a family run business.
Tom is the primary cue maker. Michi Coker, Tom's wife, designs and assembles floating point and inlay designs as well as
assists managing the business. Grady Coker, Tom's son, left Coker Cues and cue making in 2006, but periodically assists with
the family business."

Tom makes great hitting, well crafted cues IMHO.

As SpiderJerusalum pointed out it's pretty much a family operation. You can find Tom Coker's contact info via a Google search, or I have it somewhere if you need it and can't find it with Google (I dont' know Coker, just was thinking of having him make a cue for me).

Coker's cues are pretty straightforward sneaky petes, but he has produced more stylish cues as well. The shaft quality is really high, and the wood selection is fabulous. They look nice and are well made, but are more about how they feel rather than style... And they feel fantastic. My friend lent me his to play with for the afternoon and I loved it... I wanted to buy it right then and there, but he wouldn't part with it.

I have another friend who collects cues who complains that they don't increase in value, or necessarily hold their value. I'm not a collector, but I would not have ever expected them to go up in value anyway, and can't speak to how they hold their value... But it seems to be reasonalby priced for a "custom" cue, and given how it feels it's a lot of bang for the buck. Also keep in mind that at the time he told me this, I believe cue pricing in general for used custom cues had already hit rough waters (maybe 18 months ago), so perhaps his thoughts didn't account for this.

If you want to see more pix of Coker cues, try browsing the Matador Custom Cues site... http://www.matadorcustomcues.com.
