Collar Thickness

I have used a black joint collar before and I know the difference between the different types of joints.

Does the thickness of the Joint collar make a difference in the feel or is it just aethetics?

I just recently seen them on websites like

Mostly just cosmetic. The collar sleeves over the wood anyway, so it is just for looks except when builders want to change it up, like using phenolic on a break shaft.
