I'm putting this thread here because it gets the best trafic from those who collect cues, and it falls under "wanted".
This is a survey on the things that are desirable in collectable cues. The cues I'm talking about are the Vette you take out for joy rides when you're not saving on gas mileage by going with your Honda. They are collectable, but not strictly for collections. They are meant to be played with but kept in good condition. Resale value is very important.
Length:
58" or longer-is-better mentality
Weight:
19-19.5oz or is a different weight good and easy to move?
Tip Diameter:
13mm standard or newfangled thinner voodoo
Ferrule:
Ivory demands the dough or something more playable
Joint Screw:
standard 3/8x10 for compatibility or special pin?
Joint:
SS, Phenolic, Ivory demands more dough, etc.
Forearm Wood:
Classic BEM/Tiger Maple is more collectable, or something edgy like coco or ebony
Points:
Long, short, 6, 8, butterflies, hi-low, etc.
Veneers:
Lots of veneers or just one or none? Are recuts worth the price?
Handle:
No-wrap figured wood, classic irish linen, leather/leather print, funky stack, don't harm them ostriches, or hope you don't get caught with a corked cue
Rings:
Stay away from metal? Any special style? Light on the ringwork?
Butt Cap:
Ivory for prestige or something harder?
Inlays:
Should be more of a players cue, or heavier on the inlays?
CNC:
CNC work is for pansies -- only sharp cuts for me! Or are intricacies superior even if a machine did them.
