Hello, i recently realized that my school library has access to many billiard books.

Not all of them are hosted at my school so I only have titles to go on.

so far I really only have 99 critical shots, and I'm about an APA 5/6 but I believe my fundamentals are pretty solid and I'm fine on most simple kicks/banks and any simple shots(plus anything in 99 critical)

Since there are so many books, and it seems many billiard books contain mostly basic info such as rules or fundamentals, I'd like to get some comments on the list so I can only order books that will help to improve my game, which is mostly 8-Ball but I'm looking into learning 9-ball and I'm trying to focus on clusters, both breaking and making as well as interesting 8ball shots and safeties.

There are a couple more but these were the most popular...

if there are any that fit with this line of titles(I dont think racking secrets or banking with the beard is going to be in the library....) that sounds likely to be availible, please let me know too!

Thanks!

Edit: just wanted to post a couple things to help better narrow down books:

1.Only stuff I know about clusters is out of 99 critical shots...
2.I only really know a single diamond 2/3 rail kick system, one from Jimmy Ried's site... It uses 3 tips of running english and has a funkier numbering system but its easy as heck to calc a ball in the middle of the table to the diamond number but even that calc takes awhile... so if you know of something better it would be useful.
3.I pretty much use the half method(hold stick over ball and find a X and X/2 point).. I am about 85-90% on pretty much any short bank(still getting problems with long banks, as usually the only time you want to bank that ball is if its right up on the rail and those give me a bit of problems)
4. I understand english as well as all ghost ball and aiming systems, so thats taken care of imho.
5. My only knowledge of safeties are either put it in a very difficult to make position(if its on a rail) or hide whitey behind my ball or the 8... I'd like to get into more creative ones where the ball I hit off of and goto rail with is the ball I safety with, as right now unless its a gimme on the rail I have problems with these.
6. I play a *bit* of straight, but my main game is 8ball.. my toughest situations are when both group balls are in a cluster that isnt touching or setup(99 critical shots wont help), but there are no really obvious safeties or breakout shots... I would love a book that looks over many different clusters and ways to safety with them.

Thanks again, to anyone with knowledge about these books!

A number of these books are exactly what they say they are...

Books about BILLIARDS. As in 3-cushion, balk-line, no pockets. I used to own quite a few of these and they can be helpful with rail and diamond systems, but they aren't going to help you pocket balls.

I would venture that the ones worth a look are:

#17, #21, #32 and #39.

17 is a fun book about Minnesota Fats and life as a pool player. Needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

21 is a somewhat hard to find book about 3-cushion billiards that is a classic in the field. Wouldn't mind having a copy of this myself.

32 has had almost an entire thread dedicated to it recently on this board.

39 is a video of the 1966 U.S. Open 14.1 Tournament in New York between (I think) Luther Lassiter and Cisero Murphy. That's worth seeing.

Hope this helps...

Number 20 is great for hardening your fundamantals Read the first 40 pages or so. The rest is straight rail and balk line billiards.

I wish I had number 21 just for my book collection. I believe I had this one from a decendant of Welker. You need a degree in physics to understand it if this is the one I remember. The book was stolen.

Another excellant book on sound fundamentals is "How I Play Snooker" by
Steve? Davis.

I see you're not looking for info on fundamentals but these two books from two true Masters of their game give tips I've not seen in any other books. It's also good to review this stuff unless you're a very accomplished player and even so sometimes we forget the little stuff.

Byrne's books, #8 and #38, are good.
Daly's billiard book, #20, is a great book but for carom players.
