Diamond's new light has a height specification for installation - bottom of the light 78 inches from the floor.

How much would performance deteriorate if mounted lower?

Do you prefer the old style?

Don't think I ever saw a similar specification for the old style.
Wasn't one of the virtues of the old style that it could be placed at any height?

That's probably just based on table height. They probably got a phone call a day about proper height to install since they don't install them and just slapped a number on there.

If it is lower, you might hit your head? We play on a Smart 7' with a low hanging light and heads have been whacked

Actually, we did not "just slap a number" on there. On a 9' table the light should be 48" from the playing surface (approximately 78" from the floor.) On a 7' table it should be 40 to 42" from the playing surface. The Diamond light has a parabolic mirror diffuser. The height spec is to get the light spread evenly on the playing surface only. If the light is mounted too high, some of the light is going off the table. If it is mounted too low, then too much light is focused in the middle. These numbers were determined by using a light meter. Instead of posting this on AZ Billiards, it would be simpler to call Diamond at (812)288-7665 and ask these type of questions.

Thanks, Paul.
You saved me long-distance phone charges. :D
And I don't have to scribble notes. :D
Really wish the Diamond site provided more info on the products.
