Conical Shaft Question

I have over 80 cues and try to play with them all, a task for sure. My question is about the evolvement of tapering a shaft to the conical design with a pro-taper? Just looking for responses of the why it came about and purpose, curious 101 I guess.........Larry in cold Indiana

Kinda confused here. Are you asking why conical tapered shafts have become popular? In a nutshell, lower deflection. All the really low-def. shafts are conical. It allows for less end-mass without being real whippy. Before buying one definitely test one out. I personally am not a fan but i've played with pro-tapered shafts so long that the conical taper just feels weird.

Larry, A "conical design with a pro taper" is an oxymoron. By definition a conical design maintains a constant taper from one end to the other. A "Pro Taper" is a compound taper and uses several different rates of taper along the shaft.
