Good question. I like the stainless steel look against those particular rings. But besides that, maple is very light and I like a forward weighted cue. So, the stainless puts the weight up front where I believe makes for a smoother delivery. Consequently, their is just a little added weight in the butt of this particular cue. Again, the cue weight is 19.4 oz, but the cue feels lighter because of the weight in the front as apposed to the rear. I can make one without the stainless though.
